The main differences between stop valves and gate valves are structural appearance, inlet and outlet, working principle, installation method, flow resistance, sealing valve disc structure, performance, sealing, etc.

1. Different structural appearance:

The structure of the gate valve is more complicated than that of the stop valve. In terms of appearance, under the same caliber, the gate valve is higher than the stop valve, and the stop valve is longer than the gate valve.

2. Different inlet and outlet:

The gate valve has no inlet and outlet direction requirements, the flow channel is on a horizontal line, and the stroke is larger than that of the stop valve; the stop valve is low inlet and high outlet, with inlet and outlet directions, and it is obvious from the appearance that the pipeline is not on the same horizontal line.

3. Different working principles:

The gate valve turns the handwheel to make the valve stem move up and down, and the position of the handwheel itself remains unchanged. The flow rate is different; when the stop valve is opened and closed, it is a rising valve stem type, that is, when the handwheel is turned, the handwheel will rotate and move up and down with the valve stem.

4. Different installation methods:

The gate valve has the same effect in both directions. There is no requirement for the inlet and outlet directions. The medium can flow in both directions. The stop valve needs to be installed strictly in the direction of the arrow mark on the valve body. There are two ways to install it. One is that the medium can enter from the bottom of the valve core. This method is generally only suitable for stop valves with a small diameter of DN50 or less. Stop valves above DN200 use the method of medium flowing from the top. The disadvantage of the medium entering from the top is just the opposite of the method of entering from the bottom.

5. Different flow resistance:

When fully open, the gate valve has a small flow resistance, and the check valve has a large flow resistance. The flow resistance coefficient of an ordinary gate valve is about 0.08~0.12, the opening and closing force is small, and the medium can flow in two directions; the flow resistance of an ordinary stop valve is 3-5 times that of a gate valve.

6. Different sealing valve disc structures:

The valve disc of a stop valve is generally parallel to the fluid; the valve disc of a gate valve is actually a gate plate, which is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. Globe valves generally do not have a distinction between open and concealed stems, while gate valves generally have open and concealed stems.

7. Different performance:

Globe valves can be used for both shutoff and flow regulation; gate valves can only be fully opened and fully closed, so they can only be used for shortening.

8. Different sealing:

The sealing surface of the globe valve is a small trapezoidal side of the valve core. Once the valve core falls off, it is equivalent to the valve closing; the gate valve is sealed by the side of the valve core gate, and the sealing effect is not as good as the globe valve. The valve core falling off will not be equivalent to the valve closing like the globe valve.
